Design Factory 2009. Invisible sounds.

Part two of a live brief set by the Design Museum, exhibited in 2009 at 5:1 — the final show of my degree in typography at London College of Communication.

The brief: to design a city guide to London which ignores the usual landmarks and hotspots in order to take the visitor on a journey that explores, investigates and experiences London from an alternative perspective.

Invisible Sounds is a two-part response.

Part one is a prototype pack containing an electro-magnetic reciever, headphones and a CD of recordings. With this equipment the user can follow an aural path through the electro-magnetic soundscape of their location.

The packaging is inspired by the Faraday monument on the Elephant & Castle roundabout. The foil creates a Faraday cage aorund the contents.

Part two is an online archive of the recordings, which are available for download in mp3 format. The archive can be accessed at www.michaeleden.co.uk/
